I think gratitude is the key to fighting the “life is shit” demon, or the “why is this happening to me” demon, or the “life is so unfair” demon. - Ricardo Collison
You see, many people have lost their ability to even appreciate the “small things” let alone the “BIG things” in their life to be grateful for.
The fact that you opened your eyes this morning on the right side of being alive is just one to start with. How about the basics, a roof over your head, food in your stomach, family and friends, oh and one that I hold near and dear to my heart, your health. Without your health, life would suck, ask anyone with a terminal illness, anyone struggling with mobility or even breathing because they have one to many Cuban cigars in their lifetime.
I think we all have a level of gratitude awareness but with the hustle and bustle of modern-day life too many people have it ass backward.
They decide they will be grateful when they get a promotion, a new job, a home, a new car, a raise, gifts, or other tangible things.
PS, I’ll let you into a bit of a secret. If you want to gain more success and/or more happiness, then the first step is to be grateful for the many things you have.
Only after you build an “attitude of gratitude” can you begin to build on your happiness or achieve a level of success that does not feel empty.
I often get asked, how can someone manifest more gratitude to attract more abundance, well, a good start to try and not be an asshole, generally people don’t like assholes unless they have something to offer or something they want?
There have been 100s of articles written on practicing gratitude. I find some of them to be informative, some a bit lame and some that i've read downright silly to say the least, it's all so flowery. Things like, send love to your enemies or people you dislike, Wait WHAT!
To me it is simple, it's a present state of mind that arises when you affirm a good thing in your life that comes from outside yourself, or when you notice and relish little pleasures in the present moment.
Whether it’s waking up for another day, having a roof over your head, reading a good book or a tasty bite of food or good health, an awesome moment that you spent with your kids or spouse, a great day out, the laugh you had with a good friend, there is always something to be grateful for.
Even seemingly bad experiences teach us about how to be grateful because it forces us to in the present moment, and dream casting a better tomorrow.
The great thing about gratitude, is that it is not a feeling outside your control that arrives willy-nilly. You can control it, it’s like being able to play your favorite song any time you choose to.
So for me, Gratitude is the key to fighting the “life is shit” demon, or the “why is this happening to me” demon, or the “life is so unfair” demon, have gratitude for what you have and you will soon find a path to abundance.
