School Shootings and Our Kids -- What Can We Do?

School Shootings and Our Kids -- What Can We Do?

Our kids (a.k.a. the future) and how we raise them will have a huge impact on the society of the future. I don't think that there is any parent who will dispute this fact.

We teach them how to be kind, empathetic, brave, and that they can do hard things. In the hope that they will one day change the world for the better.

Yet, today we live in a society that readily accepts mass shootings in our schools, communities and workplaces. All cloaked in the veil of the 2nd amendment, and obscured by lobbyists and greed.

It is time for us adults to take a stand and demand better for our children. We owe it to them to create a world that is safe, just and sustainable.

A world where they can thrive, not just survive.

School shootings 2022

Our children did not create these problems, yet we are asking them to fix them.  It is time for us to step up and create the world we want them to inherit.

It's time we ourself take the advice we are always giving to our children, its time the we be kind, empathetic and brave. Its time we become that example we talk about to our children.

But to accomplish this task we will all need to  believe we can do the hard things needed to change this world through knowledge and policy changes. We can't change the world through Thoughts and Prayers, arming schools and having a police presence at schools.  Here's what we CAN do.

How to change state policy.

  1. Get to know your local legislators:
Take advantage of opportunities to introduce yourself to your legislator when he or she is campaigning, fund-raising or holding a “town meeting.” Find out about his or her interests and goals for your community.
  1. Increase your political awareness:
If you need to brush up on politics in your state, log on to the Internet
  2. GETTING A WORD IN:
Write to or call your state legislature
  3. Oppose or support proposed legislation:
You can use the Internet to follow legislation in most states as it goes through committee and floor votes. And you can make a critical difference by commenting on proposed legislation during this stage.

YOUR LEGISLATURE WORKS FOR YOU.

Don't forget this, it's written into our constitution, in fact it starts with "WE THE PEOPLE" You can make a difference. Your children, and community will be glad you did. The children and adults killed at all the schools below will thank you.
